New Year's Day🎉
Has a way
Of making people say
The craziest things!
Gonna lose weight
Learn Japanese
Be nicer to those that grate
Be more likely to please
But, most resolutions fade
As into the year we wade
Because life is still here
Full of both woe & cheer
Life often changes our dreams
At least to me it seems
As the constant day to day
Makes it harder to get out & play
That reality crowds into the way
Of life on Earth today
Still...
The dream of retirement is real
To take a nap, don't need to steal
Away a moment or feel guilty
About the couch calling me
So, this first day of 2020
Take a nap, on me...
While for Earth, new year's no matter
Cause the atmosphere will still scatter
Sunlight all about
In Australia, fires from drought
Here, sunny, average-ish with a breeze
Out west, storm to make drivers seize
But, for skiers, sure to please
Here Friday for rain release
No quakes today above 5.4
South of Puerto Rico, still lots more
But none that should cause concern
Just now, 5.0, it's Chile's turn
Pacific plate edge, both north & south
Rock headed back into Earth's mouth
Subduction, rock cycle unending
Mid-ocean ridges, new rock sending
While for rock somewhat old
And, on seafloor somewhat cold
It's into a trench ya go
Soon, Earth-wise, new volcano show
Red-Bellied woodpecker on the suet
That chirping bird is going to it
Other feathered monsters eating seed
Wanna watch 'em, ya gotta feed
But, nightly sky show is free
Step outside it's easy to see
Growing crescent & Venus, too
Later Milky Way coming through
Orion rising higher in the East
Inside Winter Hexagon, nice eye feast
But, ya got to go outside
Check the sky, it's far & wide
Now a Downey's on the suet
While Nuthatches pitch a fit
Bluebirds got their house staked out
Noisy Wren hopping all about
It's bird city here on New Year's Day
And, they've alway got something to say
Hope that's the only tweet I hear
Into this hopeful new year
Ignore the prez, just turn away
He ain't got nothing good to say
But, I hope you do, today
Share a smile, get out & play
Hope for peace & good cheer
Heading into this New Year
Today & everyday, On Earth
