On a recent reminder, how big Earth is
Quarter way around for some skiing biz
To try & describe the Alps with a word
Is pointless, ludicrous, even absurd
From the valley they dominate any view
From chair or piste, rocks tossed up, new
Here, mountains weathered, round & old
There, jagged, twisted, exposed & bold
Massive sinkholes in the limey karst
A wrong turn, and a skier is lost
Chairs & gondolas, far as you can see
Ski to Switzerland or on to Italy
Then to arrive home, to our piedmont
With views any would want
Last night's Venus above Moon
A delightful little eye tune
They'll be together again tonight
Hope my clouds clear for the sight
Middle East pretty shaky today
Still aftershocks coming Turkey's way
After recent 6.7 quake
Also, Greece & Iran on the shake
Most of other action around the ring
Just Earth into tectonic thing
Hang On, never quite know
Next shake or mountain to blow
But, winter still average to mild
Just global warming slowly going wild
Saw Alpine valleys, glaciers gone
Saw a few, still hanging on
But, snow and cold slow to come
For a skier, a growing major bum
But, needed a break from the mess
