Added to keep our calendar fine

This year it's winter with Boreas

Throwing a cold, raw wind at us

With high clouds blocking solar gain

Time to add wood to stove again

But, like most of this year's winter

Southern air will soon splinter

This round of cold, back to warm

The Earth's new norm

But, this Leap Day

Winter holds sway

Going out

Bundle up, no doubt

World-wide, coronavirus on spread

Health organizations: bit of dread

Here, instead of being world leader

Unprepared, stuck with a tweeter

Blaming others for his incompetence

Idiot VP as czar, makes no sense

We've worried a crisis would come

Whole administration, brain numb

Dense Pence, solve it with prayer

Dreams of Armageddon, he don't care

How does it spread, we don't know

Nor next, where will it go

But, know a US tour is coming

Likely, we all will be bumming

Lies, spin & blame all we get

From ones "in charge" of it

Markets crashing, supply chains down

Major chaos all world round

And, just for what it's worth

What doesn't care? Earth!

Don't care about quakes around rim

Or where Pacific crust is tucking in

About Venus & lovely moon in sky

If wind & temps are low or high

Earth don't care about anything

Just a planet, freely spinning

But, about to get blast of solar wind

Up north, Auroras it could send

Magnetic field & atmosphere

Will keep the zapping north of here

Got dozens of Gold Finches in yard

All, at the seed, working hard

It's crazy, there really are dozens

Squawking, bickering, fuss-ins

They quickly fly away

When my door does a'sway

Heading out on this extra day

In retirement days seem to run

7.6 or 7.7 BILLION people is a lot

Way too many is my thought

42 years ago, heard Isaac Asimov speak

Said, if population control we don't seek

More & more problems would arise

I believed him but to no surprise

Human numbers have doubled since then

And, shocker, resources are stretched thin

If we can't switch to just 1 or 2 kids

All future advancements, on the skids

Wars, diseases, famines will spread

Billions will end up dead

Yet, population graph continues to climb

Breed on cries, male religious slime

Jebuddahammed wants you to out breed

But, sorry can't help you with feed

Claim: suffer in life, worship death

More lies & evil with every breath

Only fix: women get rights & a say

Misogynist men, all go away

An easy fix, but tough to pull off

Buy less crap, don't fill greed trough

But, if parents plan, have fewer kids

We'll need less with population lids

Elect women, shut down war machine

We've learned so much about our home

But, we're running out of room to roam

In a sky which 3 planets adorn

Air; cold & dry, pressure very high

But, chill short lived, warming is nigh

Big Brown Dog just arrived back home

After his daily morning visit & roam

Smart rascal delayed his morning trip

After realizing temp had taken a dip

Now he's napping in the sun

Yet, always ready for my walk, his run

Clouds are back, lot of moisture around

That H2O wants out of the ground

One thing that water does not do

Linger; always going somewhere new

Major Earth theme, never the same

Constant change the planet game

Get with the program if you wanna play

Cuz tomorrow won't be like today

There'll be quakes, T'storms with rain

Volcanoes going to erupt

Earth: going to disrupt

The best laid plans of mice & men

Then it will disrupt them all over again

Quakes on both side of Pacific

Taiwan, Indonesia, Fiji to be specific

And offshore of El Salvador

Kyrgyzstan, on Himalaya's door

All with quakes at & above 5

Puerto Rico still a quake bee hive

Likely, none have done much harm

Bigger issue: planet getting warm

That one won't go away

And, we're all gonna pay

Worried no oil will hurt economy..

But, what will warming damage be

Models are all pretty clear

Hotter & wilder times coming here

Getting wild 600 light years away

Betelgeuse having misshapen play day

Not only dimming but changing shape

On spaceweather.com, check the tape

Closer to home, I did Mercury check

Hoping to spot that small speedy speck

Clouds, as usual, blocking the view

And, while Venus able to shine through

I did not see

Mercury

Saw Mars & Jupiter below 3/4 moon

But, not Saturn, was up too soon

And, with chill went back to sleep

'Til well after up sun did creep

Now it's time to get out for a walk
