13 Years At The TireHouse!!

Today marks the 13th anniversary of my move to my Earthship in Quail, Virginia. From hard core camping to casual, comfortable, low cost living it has been quite an adventure (and one not recommended for all). And, while there will be a toast this afternoon, tomorrow begins a 5+ week cross-country adventure (adventures are recommended for all!) and the beauty of the Earthship, unoccupied, will become evident. That a house doesn't need heating or cooling is truly a joy and that I know I can leave for extended periods and the house really doesn't care is quite a bonus. It can be 100 degrees outside and it's only going to be 77 or 78 inside. The fridge is about all that will be plugged in and the propane will be off so bills will be very minimal. The water tanks will be filled when I return (or this afternoon if there is a shower), the batteries will be charged and all will be good when I get back in early July. Earthships work!
In off-Earth news, the nearly full moon (it's full tomorrow a little after noon) will be shining near Saturn tonight while Jupiter closes in on Venus on the other side (West) side of the sky. Venus continues to catch up with Earth while we continue to pull away from Jupiter, hence Jupiter's dropping quickly toward the horizon. The two brightest planets will get closer and closer throughout the month before dancing within 2 degrees of each other for over a week at the June/July junction. Keep an eye on them and see what's going on in your solar system!
Back on Earth, June concerns often involve weather and the US has got weather; the stalled system that's flooded the southern plains begins the slow slog eastward. Texas and Oklahoma can use a break and we can certainly use the rain, and forecasts call for us to get several inches this week but hopefully not in the deluges that have devastated TX & OK. Change is always going to happen on the big planet just not at a pace we humans always like, hang on rain will happen…and not (ask California…).
With school done for the semester I'm not keeping up with earthquake & volcano news but I can guess; the fracking in OK is still causing daily quakes there and that most of the active volcanoes are on the Ring of Fire. I'll check on those list and get things updated over the next few days. Until then get out and enjoy your planet, hot or cold, wet or dry, Today on Earth!
