To John Prine, With Love!

Today is a sad day on Earth
Lost a soul of infinite worth
Ever since he burst on the scene
He sang, just what we all mean
John always hit the nail on the head
Now from this nasty virus, he's dead
Yet, his songs, words will outlive us all
Not a big guy, but left a legacy so tall
Flag decals, illegal smiles & Sam Stone
And, growing old, all alone
Of a Paradise, we could no longer see
Of Missing Years to a Lake called Marie
From Montgomery Angels to a war junkie
He was the songwriter others longed to be
Often funny & sad, humble but so smart
Lyrics & music, that grabbed your heart
Saw him first, with Bonnie back in '82
Didn't see him every time he came thru:(
Last in Richmond, 11-11-2017
One of sweetest shows I've seen
But, now, on stage, never more
But, his tunes will be, for sure
And, today, with hearts, about to break
Sinking to the bottom of Bottomless lake
All hunkered down in isolation
With lack of leadership frustration
We remember John Prine
So, many memories, so very fine
Memories to hold close & to share
John, always willing to dare
To pen what we all want to say
But, in the most beautiful way..
So sorry, sad, he didn't pass the viral test
To Fiona & his kids, I wish you
All The Best
On this very tough
Day On Earth

I don't wish to diminish or ignore the pain of all the families that lost loved ones today. They, like John, need not have died. The real sadness is in the failings of the one reason we have a government: protection! We are stuck with a "leader", who Ain't Human, only concerned with himself, his numbers, his likes and Putting People Down. And, his bevy of sycophants willing to lie, ignore and look the other way, always blaming someone else for their failings.  Gladly, we are, at least, still living in a country with way more good people than bad, that are stepping up to the plate, still doing their perilous jobs while the rest of us do the simple, but still difficult, job of staying home. So, put on some John, perhaps an illegal smile and remember all the joy the Singing Mailman delivered to each of us, for all these years!!
Stay safe, be smart, stay apart
