Northern Air Arrives, Some Thoughts On Plastic

The arrival of a cool High pressure dome
That got its start somewhere near Nome
Has washed the humidity away
Still it's August, it won't stay
A break from 90's for awhile
Hint of Fall brings a smile
Much of US in the cool
Reminder, they're about to close the pool
Then all the kids will be back in school
Time to travel, for this retired fool!

Biggest quake today a 5.0
And, total count is fairly low
Oklahoma, Montana & California
Know they're shakin', don't need to warn ya
As my river trip winds down
Thought of all the plastic around
Keurig is the classic case
Make quick cup, continue the chase
How many were thrown away
On just this one Saturday?
I bet it is in the millions
And, plastic bottles, in the zillions
We don't think, "where does it go"
To a landfill or in the ocean
Corralled & broken by wave motion
Every dead sea bird that is found
Has a stomach that is bound
Up in plastic!
Thought to be oil's wonder child
Now plastic waste has gone wild
It's found on every beach on Earth
On Arctic shores or equators girth
More than we're willing to recycle
Just another chunk of our greed cycle
Use it once throw it away
Gotta get that corporate pay
I try to be aware and use less
But, I really must confess
It's hard to do in the US
Worldwide a nasty, growing mess
Try and get through a day
Without the stuff coming into play
Hope you can, let others know
Maybe we can slow
The looming nightmare
Gotta care
Gotta be aware
Today On Earth
