Sometimes the Earth sends out warnings of impending danger, sometimes not. Iceland got the warnings, likely heeded them and their cracks in the ground have become volcanic vents, oozing hot lava. Yes, it is Ice Land and with winter just ending there will be ice melting, lava wins!! (Greenland was named as a real estate scam, Iceland, they got right.) How long will the eruption last, how much lava will flow, how much damage will be done (on Iceland and to Earth's atmosphere)? Only Earth knows and it's not telling us, in a way we understand, yet..
Iceland is only an island and not just a seafloor crack along a divergent boundary, a mid-ocean ridge, between the Eurasian and North American plates because there is also an aptly named Hot Spot underneath it; an extra source of magma. There is a Hot Spot under Hawai'i, get the Hot Spot picture? Why and what exactly are Hot Spots? We know where most of them are just not the what exactly is going on there. Hypothesis abound, theories, we're not there yet.
No lava here, just another gorgeous spring day. Massive High pressure now off New England and a persistent Low off the Carolinas are funneling coolish air off the Atlantic our way; way cooler and cloudy in Va coastal regions than here, well inland. Those two system will continue to slow the progress of the storm hammering the middle of the country until later in the week. Tomorrow is looking like a carbon copy of today before the changes begin as both the Carolina and Plains storms slide our way. Spring and change!!
Only Colombia and near New Zealand reached shake strengths above mag. 5 today and just barely. Other than the, now, normal Ok & Tex fracking quakes a very average, calmish day of quakes.
The cosmic debris from a CME (coronal mass ejection), complements of our star, will graze Earth in a couple of days keeping the auroras glowing in the far north and south lands. The moon's waxing brightness will build all week with the Full Pink moon Sunday, pushing the pagan based date for the Easter celebration back a week into early April. Ahhh, the early christian hypocrisy, kill the pagan leaders but keep their calendar to sway their adherents your way. Some hypocrisies never change!! Enjoy the moonshine this week and keep watching Mars and Aldebaran dance even closer...and stay safe out there, Today On Earth!!
