Very much a breath of fresh air to step outside today. With a Cold front passing through overnight the humid funk of recent days is gone, may still get warm today but only 80's and with low humidity that is mighty fine!! The deep south and west is not so lucky; record smashing heat and dry, dry, dry conditions have both fire and power usage warnings driving their world. Wish I could say it's gonna get better...but, probably not for a couple of hundred years, we have created a mess.
Part of an email I just sent to Bobby Whitescarver, his blog: moreontheground.com a fine read!
I heard Isaac Asimov speak at JMU back in the late 70’s and went in thinking a sci-fi talk and turned out his whole lecture was about population issues and that all the problems we were facing then were, at their root, population driven and it would only get worse if we didn’t deal with it. We obviously haven’t dealt with it and with here we are.
And, the warming driving the climate change that the wise know is already here is also what is driving the massive migrations from the middle east and Africa into Europe and from MesoAmerica to our southern border, and most are coming with 6 or 8 kids and can’t see where their problem is. One photo from anywhere in the 3rd world shows the problem, too many people.
From day one, at the start of each new school year, I talked about the 3 basic rules for Earth: Adapt, Migrate or Die! They stayed on the board all year and I often answered questions just by pointing to them, some got it. Can, will, we adapt quickly enough, slow migrations enough to prevent the current pandemic from being a small, minor blip, a foreshadowing of much worse pandemics ahead.
Lot of quakes, well, 50ish, but nothing above 5 since about 24 hours ago; still lots around Puerto Rico (sorry, google obviously can't figure out how to match fonts).
TrumpVirus deaths waaaay down (but, again some hard core liar states with no report) but with variants up and vaccinations down I fear that will change.
Until then, stay safe and for those on the cool side of things, enjoy, Today On Earth!!
