Follow The Dorian Crawl

The SE coast joins the fray
Dorian keeps moving sand away
How did barrier islands come along?
Earth just been replayin' the Dorian song
Again & again hurricanes bump
Making islands, just a big 'ole sand dump
All that sand from glacier crushed rock
Loose sand, not the best place to put up a dock
Takes some energy to move sand around
"Normal" times it just lays on the ground
Then flooded rivers, wild wind & wave action
Get sand a'movin, it loses its traction
Washed down rivers, up or down the beach
Sand is quite temporary, what I want to teach
Until buried by sea level rise or fall
Compressed to rock by the weight of it all
Then it becomes sandstone, won't blow away
Until returned to the surface some distant day
Alas, today, with sea level rise
A wise geologist would surmise
Sand will keep moving further onshore
Covering human structures, for sure
Transgression the term, not the human kind
In future a rock sequence, here's what you'll find
Sandstone covered by Shale then Limestone
All on top of Dismal Swamp coal zone
No one alive will see Richmond a beach
With warming trends, not that long a reach
But, when that occurs will humans be around
If we are, we won't be so greed bound
We'll have figured out how to get along
Adapting to the new, current Earth song
It's certain current "leaders" offer no help
Economy, jobs, all they can yelp
What if port cities & beaches all under water
That reality will make life a little harder
Fast & slow, Earth can go at either pace
Long term, our planet will win the race
Greed & war will lose to geologic time
Future will prove overbreeding a crime
Can't even mention realistic contraception
So sad, human's true lack of perception
Data, facts, truth constantly ignored
Yet dreams of some future pearly reward
Taken as truth, the ultimate con
Patriarchal bile, still they preach on
Still fools believe, throw them the money
Suffer now, after death, all will be sunny
And, streets will be lined with gold
Once dead, you'll never get old
But, nobody knows, it's a great mystery
Since nobody knows, then don't tell me!

But, here's what we do really know
Every year round the sun tilting to & fro
Earth will heat up & cool back down
Quakes will rock some near or distant town
Volcanoes will destroy & make more land
And, that life on Earth can be so grand
If we live better with Earth & not just on it
Remember, the planet doesn't care one bit
About us
Hope you caught the lovely crescent last night
Be bigger tonight to Jupiter's right
If Dorian's clouds don't block the sight
Or wind & rain haven't locked you up tight
Could be a wild one!
Today On Earth!
