Another Lost Battle, But War's Not Over!

Today, a lovely day but with storms coming
After a rather stormy planning commission meeting last night
Several song lines popped into my head
Here's the one I pried out

Straightened 605

Old Louisa’s gone away
But, traffic’s here to stay
The day they straightened 605
Old Louisa went away
Hey, get out of my way
The day they straightened 605

Old roads follow along the ridge line
Where it’s flat but never very straight
For just a few cars that was all fine
But, now we gotta go, just can’t wait

Route 605 was built by folks on horseback
Needing just a slow, steady gait
Late to the plant again I’ll get the sack
That’s why we need this road straight

Old Louisa’s gone away
But, traffic’s here to stay
The day they straightened 605
Old Louisa went away
Hey, I got the right o’ way
The day they straightened 605

How can we make it without in-dustry
That is really all we need
Don’t need no tree on the road in front of me
So, this warning you should heed

We just can’t have a road be so winding
And, for folks on a bike, I don’t care
Straight with four lanes we should be finding
Get out of my way, I don’t share

Old Louisa’s gone away
Got more crime here today
The day they straightened 605
Old Louisa’s gone away
Hey, you are in my way
The day they straightened 605

Now the stop lights are here
Trees and farms got the sack
And, one thing is quite clear
Those trees ain’t coming back

While it may be sad it is true
With industry rural goes away
Need straight roads running through
Jobs and money will save the day
Let’s pave Parish
Straighten Roundabout, too

Old Louisa’s gone away
Crime & traffic here to stay
The day they straightened 605
Old Louisa’s gone away
I’m taking that school bus out today
The day they straightened 605

Let’s straighten ‘em all
Bikes, who needs two wheels
I got eighteen..
And, a shiftin’ load
Look out....
