Clouds and Rain To Start the Adventure

Randy's Road Trip started yesterday on a cool, cloudy day and with occasional sun on the 400 miles to Asheville. The system that had been stalled and flooding the south plains has finally begun to ooze east and it's hanging on the south Atlantic and just east of Hickory NC I felt the deluge myself. I had been driving toward the storm for some time, serious darkness dominating the western sky, so it wasn't a surprise and was through it in 10 or so minutes but it felt like an hour of high stress driving. And, then it was gone and the amazing, ridge after ridge after ridge, Smoky Mountains came into view. Stunningly huge, I had no idea the size and height of the southern Appalachians; for 250 million years old they are still very impressive, lot of rock sticking up in the air.
Asheville is a fun town, full of energy and activity with all kinds of folks out and about on a cool Tuesday evening. We dined at Isis, a restaurant and music hall (not run by the spineless, terrorist group) and everything we ordered was wonderful, in presentation and taste bud sensation. It was great to see friends and catch up, a main goal of the odyssey I have embarked upon. And, to explore the earth! Which we are about to do, a hike adventure.
More to come but it's time to get out on the big planet and explore, Today on Earth!
