As usual, Gov. Northam's mandates are based on sound reasoning but leave the details in a deep haze; and Va. will likely be in a bit of a haze today. Marijuana becomes legal today but how...no where to buy it, can only give it away, I think, can grow it but can't get seeds, legally??? and certainly none of the tax benefits that other states enjoy from legalization. But, by making it legal he made it harder for republicans (if dems screw up and lose governor's race) to put the genie back in the bottle. And, cops will have to come up with new tactics to put blacks in jail; can't do a traffic stop, search and possession arrest!
His energy mandate, poorly planned, has Va. losing forest by the thousands of acres to put in industrial solar plantations. Good idea, poorly done!
And, while balloon releases seem to be a major means of celebrating a life lost to gun violence, their release will be illegal and should be. It's a stupid use of helium, and they are made of plastic that doesn't break down and looks like food to many animals (especially marine), "let's celebrate poor parenting by sending plastic everywhere"!!! Balloons suck!!
When I finally got up today, there were no squirrels in the front yard..?? Then I saw the large hawk sitting nearby, staring at the feeders; just sorry he flew off without taking a snack with him. Tree rats an ongoing destructive issue here..and elsewhere.
Spritzing shower last night added to the humidity and greened the moss but little else. There is hope for more as a cold front moves closer..and closer..could get wild today. Tropical Storm Elsa spun up earlier today, still a'ways out in the Atlantic but seems to be on a path toward the mess in Miami...time. NW heat wave is moving farther inland, across the northern plains today, NE swelters on. Muggy!!!
No big quakes today, 5.1 in S. Mexico might have rattled some nerves and buildings. Fuego blasts on in Guatemala, Etna in Italy and Iceland's rift is still fountaining and oozing lava. No Hawai'i, no Aleutians on the week's list. Usual volcano list, Indonesia, Japan, Kamchatka, PNG, Philippines.
Sunspot just doubled in size, blasts seem eminent, auroras in Canada yesterday!
TrumpVirus deaths still low, but still too many with a vaccine available; denial and stupidity not a good combo. Don Rumsfeld died yesterday, good riddance; his 88 years an affront to all the young American, Afghan and Iraqi lives lost to his and W's and Chaney's lies and poor decisions. More republican, war mongering slime; if there's a hell, he's there!
Well, Virginia, welcome to July 1, 2021, ENJOY, Today On Earth!!😎
