Elsa is gone and with no storms in the Atlantic basin it's Bermuda High time; and that means heat & humidity and we got it. Back into the 90's today with the muggies, heat indexes over 100!! Big heat (and fires) out west, trough in between keeping upper plains a little cooler. Our storm chances increases as the week moves on but in summer fashion will be hit and miss. A good sign, The Hershey Dog Creek is still flowing!!
Also, in typical Va. fashion, if there's cool sky to view, clouds will not let it through. Moon, yes; Venus, yes; Mars, nope, couldn't see it and while on other days it might have been a lovely sunset sky, not last night. The two planets will be close again tonight but Mars is very dim and dropping quickly as we leave it behind. Venus will remain in pursuit of Earth, still months away from catching us and remain the Evening Star.
Few 5+ quakes around today, usual rim suspects, plus Iran (hopefully not an Israeli bombing) and northern New Mexico with some good little shimmies today. Sinkholes opened up in Florida's heart of denial and self-centeredness recently, the villages, land of TDS* on golf carts; sadly it hasn't yet swallowed the whole place...keep the faith!!
21 volcanoes on the list last week, some old favorites are back: Krakatoa and Stromboli while usual suspects keep blasting away. Western Pacific rim is, as usual, the week's winner for activity with Philippines Taal running off the most people with a nasty sulfur dioxide addition to its eruption; yummm to that smell.
Minor solar blast headed our way but just auroras the likely outcome. Waxing crescent gets a little bigger and higher in the west below the belly of Leo, Venus still beams below.
TrumpVirus deaths still several hundred a day and likely to continue to trend upward with TDS* assbrains remaining unvaccinated and Delta variant expanding exponentially. Unvaxed neighbors of my sister are no longer neighbors, both got it, both dead. Donny the douche continues lie-fest on the source for fake news, insurrection and attempted coup was all about love...if by love you mean hate...his lips were moving..you know it's a lie.
Time to get a very tired dog up and about before heat gets crazy and a guest arrives, Today On Earth.
