Thought On A Symposium

Thoughts On A Symposium

After Chuck & Harry visited us here

Join Va Writer’s Club, the task, so clear

Then a symposium, Ink & Inspiration, the theme

A visit to my sister’s fit into my scheme

August 2nd, the weather, a delight

No heat or humidity, a rare summer sight

We gathered and chatted, snacks did abound

What sessions to attend, on the 4 rounds

My first choice, a scratch, sickness, so sad

Fill-in, Ken Conklin, DIY publishing, not bad

Eye opening issues when the writing is done

HELP!!

Make getting a book on a shelf less burdensome

Lots of issues, so much to do

Lots of ideas, he talked us through

Next, down the hall, to Emily Babbit’s session

A handout, fill-in-the-blanks! in our possession

Own Your Audience: Email Marketing

Who knew..

Email still best contact and selling thing

Be honest & clear, short with just 1 idea

Use subjectline.com to help with your steer

LUNCH

Tasty wrap, chips, fruit & cookies, too

Outside, so lovely, we chatted on through

Best seller Diane Fanning: Keynote speaker

Into crime genre, out, you should seek her

Outside to warm up, found amazing rock seats

Concave & convex were two halves to meet

Then, was Leslie Truex, AKA; Jenna Harte

Marketing 101, know your reader: the place to start

What do you offer, is there more?

Keep ‘em involved with what you’ve got in store

Then Jennifer Artley: great openings & hooks

How to grab readers on their first looks

A bold line or a question or establish a place

Start in the middle, will wanna catch up to your pace

Introduce quirky character, establish the need

Great openings make your work; a gotta read!

Glad I joined the Club and to the symposium went

Bang for the buck, time & money well spent!!
