The trees here remain ice coated, struggling to remain upright, as the sun does its melting job; drip, drip, drip, crash!! On our late afternoon, the heavy rain gone, walk yesterday, there were cedar trees doubled over and dead branch debris everywhere, many stuck in the unfrozen paths; a tree/branch crashed across the field, wild!! But, I saw no snow. Almost 1 1/2" in gauge!! Almost 5" for month and now over 62" for 2020, still a foot behind record craziness of 2018.
Meteorologist Eric Pritchett with the explanation; a layer of warm air remained wedged above us and melted the falling snow leaving only rain drops to freeze into sleet or fall all the way down as rain, coating any surface below 32, most; a classic ice storm, something we haven't seen in a few years! Power was out, back and out again for several hours, a quiet evening by the fire with a dog still loving his new bed. Naps just kept coming:)
So, we missed the Saturn Jupiter Moon viewing last night...moon will still be nearby tonight, the planets closer still - 5 days til the solstice closest encounter, keep watching, keep shooting pics!!
Another pretty average earthquake day, mostly Pacific Ring, Puerto Rico, Greece but nothing above low to mid magnitude 5 range.
Volcanoes..the usual suspects are still blasting away: Etna in Sicily, Fuego, Santa Maria, Pacaya in Guatemala and Sabancaya still wild in Peru. Lewotolo and Merapi still blasting big in Indonesia with Dukono and Semeru quite alive, warnings, STAY AWAY, for all. Kamchatka and Japan with usual 4 and 3 on list. Telica in Nicaragua is back on the list, 19 in all for the week. Still quakes on Hawai'i but not eruptions.
TrumpVirus numbers continue to rise and sadden; 3,607 deaths yesterday, blowing up the old daily record. It is my hope that all attended a T...p rally this fall, unfortunately that is probably not the case; more likely that they got it from a selfish, clueless TDS* - fat and stupid as their fuhrer wanna be. 244,000 new cases yesterday, now over 308K killed because we have been leaderless for 4 years, 17 million Americans have been infected (likely way more), still the proud world leader!! Who knows what crap fat donny will try and pull over his last 34 days.
In what you deserve news, swollen tick Mikey Pompeo invited 900 people to a xmas party..and only a couple of dozen attended, he barely waddled in and didn't speak..who really wanted to hear more lies..they are all busy looking for jobs at the fox or republican think tanks, an oxymoron if ever there was one. Pompeo & Barr will likely be forming and obesity consulting firm, Two Sick Tics after their "service" but both should be in jail or shot for treason.
Time to venture out into the dripping icicle wonderland, finally get xmas cards in the mail and get home to more hunkering down..Today On Earth.
