The new year started cloudy and warm
Cooler today, with clouds, more the norm
With clouds you can guess rain is coming
A damp, soggy world has folks a'bummin'
A peek at the sun tomorrow late
Then 'til Sunday, we'll have to wait
But no freezing temps in the early year
Damp gloom easier with no snow to fear
Not many quakes so far on today's list
Italy and Mongolia, bit of a twist
While offshore Indonesia two good shakes
But seems no tsunami either makes
Not real sure with government semi-closed
Idiot Chump OK with thousands hosed

If up in the early morning you be
The waning crescent moon was in between
Venus and Jupiter in today's predawn scene
Tomorrow's moon alines with Jupiter and Antares
As on to New and a partial eclipse it hurries
Saturn is at superior conjunction today
Directly behind our star, seen no way
And about midnight is Earth's perihelion
Closest to the sun this year, heat you feelin'?
Not with the northern hemisphere tipped away
But, might be a little hotter down Austral way

The large brown dog is up and about
Just got the look, "Dad, let me out"
And, now he sits, patient as can be
Watching the birds, waiting for me
To stop the rhymes and play with him
Time to get out in our forest gym
