The color show continues in the forest, emphasized even more by the cloudy, flat light today. Still 63 at midnight, we're now down in the mid-50's with little chance of increase as the massive Canadian blast spills deep into the US. So far, the very little rain here forecast is holding up, couple of spritzes and a few drops right now but not much has or seems likely to fall.
The sun is forecast to return tomorrow, with a lovely weekend in store(as is usually the case on my annual party weekend, alas...), but without any sun today there will be no daytime heating. After the cool weekend, temps will rebound for another above average week, the growing norm on a warming world. But, you have to go way down south - or to California, where federal lands burn on without any federal help - if it's warm you want this weekend.
Alaska and Puerto Rico, both, with a few smallish quakes today. 5.0 biggest quake on the planet today and that's along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
New Moon is today at 3:31pm with the closest perigee of the year just nine hours later. Add the sun's tug to the moon's at that distance and tidal range today will be extreme, coastal flooding, another new norm.
The only sunspot has quadrupled in size in a day but still isn't anywhere near the size range that might send solar blasts our way. The new cycle seem to be slowly growing; the good news, the sun's strength deflects/blocks powerful cosmic rays from deep space from zapping Earth (and our solar system).
TrumpVirus deaths were back over a 1,000 on the 14th - the list seems a day or so behind and light on actual information, don't know the reason but everything else can be traced back to lack of leadership and general ineptitude with this collection of suck-ups and idiots in this administration. Obese sycophant Chris Christie (nice job with the name parents) is out of the ICU after a week. How ya doing now fat boy with all your lies and denial. Maybe find an extra large mask and cover that disgusting face of your's.
Here's hoping for a presidential TrumpVirus relapse soon - you're not immune ya dumbass. As an American, hoping for any means of removal of the nasty virus in the White House, is my duty. As Kirsten Gillibrand said when asked what's the first thing she would do if elected president, "I'd wipe down the Oval Office with bleach"!
Stay warm and dry, safe and masked, Today On Earth.
