HOT!!!

Today is shaping up as the hottest day of the week, it's already 95 in the shade, in the woods and it's only 12:15. Humidity is low but hot is still hot and today's word is simply: HOT! Lots of water and stay in the AC if you can. There is coolness coming with a front tomorrow (and a chance of much needed showers) but be careful today. HOT!! It's HOT!!

Heat building back!

After a couple of hot and dry days the humidity will build back in with the heat as a big high pressure ridge over Tenn./Kent. continues to ooze eastward. Mid 90's today and over 100 tomorrow in eastern Va. We will probably stay in the upper nineties here in the forest. T'storms will begin to pop up Saturday and the chances will increase Sunday. July is going out like July does, hot.
Tropical depression Don is building in the southern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to bring much needed relief to south Texas by the weekend. It may reach Cat. 1 hurricane status by landfall.

Hot but dry

Today brings another hot July day but with low humidity, always a welcomed relief in Central Va. The cold front that brought in the dry air is down in the Carolinas but of course there is change coming and that means back to heat AND humidity. Triple digits will return for the weekend and another chance of showers Sunday through next Tuesday.
No chance of forgetting it's SUMMERTIME!!!!

Scary Heat

Stay inside if you can and live on the east coast; it's scary out there, killing heat. Stepping outside is like walking into the mouth of a foul-breathed monster , you just want to be back in conditioned air as quick as possible. It was above 96 here in the shade in the forest yesterday and will probably be hotter today. A chance of showers comes into the forecast tomorrow but it's slight and they'll be spotty but the heat will fade slightly after two more brutal days.
Hang on and stay cool.
And, HAPPY 89TH BIRTHDAY TO MY MOM, OPHELIA ANN SMITH HOLLADAY!!!

Nasty Heat!!

Va. has finally and fully been included in the nasty heat wave that engulfs much of the US. Heat indexes will be well above 100 again and it's almost dangerous to be outside for long. Caution is urged and fluids must be consumed (water, obviously the best). But, get used to it, it's only mid-July and this pattern seems to be locking in (?welcome to the new hotter Earth???).

The Muggys are back

Heat and Humidity, that summertime couple, settle into Va. today with high heat indexes and a general yucky-ness to just breathing when you step outside. And, while some showers may cool things briefly if they fall on you today, that will be short lived and just reinforce the humidity. July is getting serious now and lots of fluids and time in the AC is suggested. It's 94 at LCHS with a heat index of 102 at 12:30. My guess is both of those numbers will go higher.
Slow and steady with lots of breaks!!

Heat returns!

The heat of July is back, although not as hot as it's going to be for this week. A weak front will approach and dissolve over the area tomorrow bringing a slight chance for storms before the real hot air gets here Friday and Saturday.
Think cool thoughts!!

Last of the coolness

Sunday starts cool and hazy but this might be the last day for awhile that windows can be left open at night with the AC's turned off. The cool flow is changing and Va. will begin to feel the heat that has plagued the southern plains for the last week. Enjoy today, 90's are coming back with a shot at 100 degrees by Friday.

Coolness Returns

Last night's storms ahead of a cold front sweep in cool air to Va. with low humidity and bring relief from the heat. It is gorgeous today! Get outside and enjoy it. Low 80's today with temps into the 50's tonight (yes, 50's for the ides of July). The cool dryness will linger through the weekend as high pressure to the north takes control.

Waaay Hot

Richmond sets record for highest low temperature ever recorded (in 114 years) at 81 degrees, first time it hasn't gotten below 80.  July 12 is also the only day in July without a 100+ temp.
One more cooking day on Wednesday and then relief.

HOT, HOT, HOT

Summer is in full swing in central Va. with temps expected into the 90's (we'll see if it makes it here in the woods - it only hit 88 yesterday) today. It's already 81 at 10:15 with haze and humidity so thinking cool thoughts may not be all that's needed to stay cool today. A cool front approaches tomorrow with temps only in the 80's for week's end. That front will bring with it a chance of showers.
Stay cool!!

Nice Saturday!!

After a hot, muggy, and then stormy Friday, the cold front clears the area and the air and leaves Va. with a cool, drier day for July 9. With all the moisture dumped on the state recently we'll have some cumulus clouds build today but the rain chances should be slim. Sunday will see the heat begin to build back into the low 90's with an even hotter Monday; it is mid July so heat's to be expected.
Get out and enjoy today!!

Sultry in Va.

After several days with wild storms scattered all over VA and NC (most missing Louisa) it's just July heat today; still a chance of storms but less so than yesterday. Humidity will be in the mix after all the moisture that's been added to this part of the planet lately.
Think cool!!

Hot and Sultry

July is here: big storms, heat and humidity. The storm chance drops today after the last two wild days but with the moisture that's fallen recently and the heat that will build today there is always a chance of a late afternoon shower.
Stay cool and listen for the thunder rumble!

A cool start to July

It's hard to complain about July starting off with a low of 61 and dry air; but enjoy it today because the big High that's bringing the cool dry air will slide south and east today and tomorrow will feel the like south in the summer, hot and humid.
The season's first tropical storm, Arlene, has formed in the Gulf of Campeche and headed into Mexico bringing way more rain than anyone needs at one time. Hang on down there!!
Get out and enjoy today in Va.
