Front Moving, Chilly Wedge Gone

Northward the cool wedge has gone
As I finish up a new protest letter and song
Local fools waste our money and lie
Just can't let them slide by
They're as bad as the squirrels in the yard
Both just rats making things hard
Most moved to this county 'cause it's rural
I'm serving seed to watch birds not squirrels
But, squirrels just following Earth rules
Adapt, Migrate or Die, they ain't fools
About time to go get my wild dog
Today just might be a short blog
Nothing big shaking in the quake scene
And, with these clouds no sky to be seen
Next few days we make a move to summer
And, while hot and humid may be a bummer
Spring's cool returns this weekend
Likely with rain to send
Our way
But, probably not today
On Earth

Hairy woodpecker on the suet
Momma Grosbeak on feeder next to it
Now seeing three guys and two gals
Lot of squawking, if they're all pals
Grosbeaks hanging around for awhile
Cool by me, make me smile
Gorgeous birds!! Wooo!
But, Blue Jays are, too!!

Grosbeak Family Grazing!!

Mom & Dad Grosbeak are eating seed
Before movin' on, ya gotta feed!
Grab a snack, back up into the trees
Now doves & finches, doing as they please
I'm just sitting, watching the show
Kinda chilly outside, ya know
Yesterday's cold front dropped the temp
Clouds, northeast wind, being a wimp
I'm still inside, wild dog's still out
But, I'll get out, ain't no doubt

In quake news: magnitude 6.2, Carlsberg Ridge
Just happened, moved sea floor a smidge
So far, water still, no tsunami to warn
All the warring folks on Africa's horn
Venezuela, Greece, North Atlantic, too
With California on the quake map view
Nothing in Hawaii, eruption is done
For now, that hot spot still got lava to run
Another day, Earth doing what it does
Plates shifting, same as it ever was!

Last night, cool, clear sky; spectacular
Pulled off in dark spot gave it a stare
Bright Sirius still ruling the western sky
With Procyon, Betelgeuse, winter triangle, sigh..
Other way, Big Dipper way up high
Handle arcs to Arcturus nearby
Then spike on to Spica in Virgo
Dipper points to Polaris, northward go!
On or off Earth, always an amazing show
You should get out, that you know
Today On Earth,

Hazy, Coolish With The Ring Quaking

The Pacific rim is shaking today
Upper 4's and lower 5's made it sway
No massive destruction in play
Just lots of movement to make folks say
Whoa, glad that stopped when it did...
Knowing there's always more plate skid

Sun is trying to burn through the haze
Stalled front leaving us in a maze
Which way will it go
Yesterday, Chicago snow
Here cool and breezy, azure skies
Today's different, no surprise
Slowly warming, then front coming
Perhaps a shower, rain a'drumming
Cool tomorrow, then warming fast
We know nothing's going to last
For long, on Earth!

Waning crescent rising late night
Out there now, clouds block from sight
Mars now low in the evening sky
With Leo & the Dipper way up high
Jupiter up by midnight these days
Venus & Mercury low in dawn haze
Saturn rises just after midnight
With Jupiter, lovely early morning sight
Get out
Today On Earth!

Rose Breasted Grosbeak still hanging out

A Warm, Wild Friday

Front coming through
Look out you
Branches & limbs a'flyin'
Don't want to be out tryin'
To deal with that
Inside is where I was at
Power flickered, then was gone
For way too long
Power back on
Rain moved along
Chilly air comin' in
Sun tomorrow with wind
Enjoy!

Yesterday's fire in the field!

Warm Temps, Colorful Birds

Spring continues warm not hot
And, my bird feeders are the spot
For a colorful show of feathers
Red, gold, blue, rose they gathers
A Rose Breasted Grosbeak passing through
Squawking Blue Jay, "move on, you!"
But, yet to see either today
Always moving, on their way
Earth is moving but not much sway
Seems to be happening on planet today
Volcano list is a little light
But, Fuego still causing major fright
The moon was near Saturn this morn
Most of the light by clouds was torn
Big storm approaching from southwest
Every day on Earth, a new test
Always evolving, nothing but change
How will today somehow rearrange
Will tomorrow's dogwoods be lovely still
Will the air be warm or chill
Pollen is thick, welcome to spring
But, if you don't get out, here's the thing
You'll never know what treat you missed
So, you know me, I'm gonna insist
That you get out, take a stroll
A hike, bike or a scooter roll
It's so sweet, this planet of our's
I could wander round for hours
And, I likely will
Today On Earth!

Spring Loveliness Continues!

Another azure sky day, warmer still
After a little morning chill
Almost 40 degree temperature swing
A sure sign dry air's the thing
My wayward dog finally came home
Out all night, on a roam
Makes my night's sleep less sound
Knowing there's no dog around
But, with feeders in, bear's stayed away
I'd just as soon keep it that way
If you live in the trees, know bears do, too
Hunger driven, don't want to mess with you
Hummers still slurpin' sugar water down
Seed eating birds, less hanging around
Plenty of worms and bugs up in the trees
Fresh treats way better with babies to please
Waning gibbous moon rising quite late
Tonight right next to Jupiter, can't wait!
Two more days does a Saturn flyby
Always some magic in the night sky
Always some quakes on the big world
Hope, from Philippine 6.4, no water swirled
6.0 near Fiji, happens most days
In US, two quakes east, just minor sways
5.4 near Acapulco, a Mexican shake
While off Vancouver, subduction zone quake
Always the plates moving around
Hope it's steady on your chunk of ground
Time for another stroll woods
A warm, green world, nothing but good
Today On Earth!

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

An astronaut pic from the moon
Quickly made we earthlings swoon
We all live on that lovely pale, blue dot
And well into the future it's the only spot
Upon which we all can live
Perhaps we need to give
Our home a little more love

A Lovely Sunday On A Shaky World

High pressure is in charge of the East
As families prepare their spring feast
Clear, deep blue skies, pleasant temps
Cooling breeze, no whiny, "too cool" wimps
On the western Pacific, whole lot of shakin'
Kamchatka to Fiji, rocks movin' & breakin'
Chile, Argentina, things moving, too
Off Puerto Rico, always quakes, a few
Waning gibbous moon, lovely this morn
When from a bed, by a dog was torn
But, I went back and took a nap
He joined in the dog romp and yap
Time for another walk, I do believe
Before more food & drink we do receive
Spring, a time to celebrate life
A walk, a drink, cut down on strife
Enjoy Today On Earth!

April 20th, 2019

Wild rain and tornadoes have moved on
Clearing skies, before the dawn
"Pink" full moon obscured from view
By the raging storm that flew
Through the country

Today was what Spring should be
Azure skies, cumulus to
Air washed clean and never hot
The best thing that we had not
Was much pollen!

Not many quakes but some made me think
That several months is a blink
Quakes? Re-stirring on Hawaiian Isle
80+ million year old, tempestuous child
A new eruption?

Mallow, the sweet green of young leaves
Earth's now that color, By Jeeves!
420 today, taken on new meaning
Nationwide, hope, a rational greening
😄

Warm & Greening With Pollen

The yellow pollen is coating everything
In the greening world full of bird sing
Mostly singing, "where are the feeders"
Give me some time, you monstrous eaters
The feeders have to be taken down
When there is a bear on the town
So, after dark in the feeders go
Cuz I don't want that big bear to show
I'm glad there was no bear to see
My "protection" dog was out 'til three
He's in serious nap mode now
But, will likely manage a walk some how
He don't know of the excitement coming
When his cousins get here, things will be hummin'
The heat that's coming is not here yet
But, today more low 80's is a safe bet
With tomorrow getting wild again
As another big storm will descend
Same old: wind, rain, hail, tornado or two
We know, but, never certain what Earth will do!

It will keep shaking, with moving plates
Earthquakes, volcanoes, constant Earth fates
Magnitude 6.1 quake off Taiwan today
Good news; no tsunami report coming their way
Otherwise, a slow day on the planet that shakes
But, 18 volcanoes have what it takes
To make the list of erupting mountains
With ash plumes, lahars or big lava fountains
In Guatemala, Fuego still the wild child
Still 8 in Indonesia, range dangerous to mild
Etna putting on a light show in Italy again
And the hot lake on Ruapehu, don't get in!
But, do check out the big moon tonight
Full early tomorrow, so, quite the sight
It's the Pink moon, and, no it won't be pink
Named for spring flowers, is what they think
So, enjoy the warmth, beware the storms
As they roll thru tomorrow in swarms
Always there's danger, always a treat
Get out Today On Earth, it can't be beat!!

Wild Weather & Large Bear!

TOE has been dormant as the world turned green
And, I'm not sure I can cover all I've seen
The monster storm that has ripped across the land
Got to the east coast yesterday and it was grand
Crazy wind, tornado warnings, a big thunder storm
More heat, moisture; this weather is looking the norm
Of course, there was snow on the northwest edge
Border to border, the country hammered like a sledge
But, the trees are greening, dogwoods are blooming
Figured it was about time for a bear to be looming
I've been taking down the bird feeders at night
Sure enough, I had that timing right
Just 20 minutes after the power came back
I was startled by a large dog bark attack
There it was, a large mass in the yard
Lights on, dog crazy, adrenaline flowing hard
Ursa major was not fazed a bit
Until I yelled at him, OUT he should GET!
With no feeders, and a human screaming
He ambled on, shiny black coat gleaming
Didn't let Breyer out for another hour
He was wild, sniffing, snorting on a yard scour
Got no picture, he wasn't here long
But, not convinced he's really move along
Neighbors got his pic on their game cam
Camera not a thought with my adrenal slam
But, the bear and storm are gone
Clear skies, wild wind, cool linger on
Spring is here, no frost in the forecast
With hummers slurpin' sugar water fast
Time to brave the wind, pollen and bear
Gotta get out, a lovely day out there
Enjoy the charm after the storm
Today On Earth

To catch up the shaky world news
Just over 100 quakes 4.5+ giving locals the blues
But, no tsunamis from monster quakes
Another average week on the planet that shakes
A pretty average volcano list
If not in Indonesia; then volcanoes are missed
Over half for the week in Kamchatka or Indo
To see exploding mountains, that's where ya go
Or Costa Rica or Chile, either side of the Ring
And, watch out, Krakatoa is doing it's thing!

Tonight's sky will be bright with the gibbous moon
Winter's stars setting, spring's rising soon
The Big Dipper, in the northeast, out of hibernation
Part of the Great Bear, pointing to Polaris' location
The other side of the dipper to Leo's Regulus opposite
Where tonight, that bright star and the moon will sit!
Get out and check the sky out
But, for bears, WATCH OUT!!

Hoooos The Champs!!

Congrats goes out to UVa
For a big overtime win yesterday
From the lowest of lows
To the highest of highs
Only the team truly knows
Just what it took to get by
And, how much of a loss
One key player can be
A defensive gem, he was the boss
He took over last night, easy to see
Last year, worst loss in history
Last night, top of the NCAA tree!!
Go Hooooos!

While checking out today's quiet quake list
A big red circle popped up, suddenly a twist
First 6.7, but now 6.5
The Scotia plate is quite alive
No tsunami warning was sent
So likely only rocks go jostled and bent
But, quite the reminder of a planet in charge
Any day into our lives it will barge
Like two quakes just west of Yellowstone
Hopefully nothing! That volcano's bad to the bone

And, while temps today feel like summer
Somewhere the planet's made today a big bummer
Sadness in Lubbock, joy in Charlottesville
One team's heartbreak, another's thrill
Here in the forest, the tics are about
Looking to latch on, suck my blood out
Removed two while writing this blog
Got a feeling there's more on my dog
Happy to provide the birds with seed
But, eating more tics is what I really need

If the clouds clear tonight
The waxing crescent moon will be right
Right between the horns of Taurus, the bull
Above red Aldebaran & Mars, 10 days 'til full
Warm temps are great but bring out the bugs
Tiny, annoying little blood sucking thugs
Still, what you gonna do, stay inside
Naw, get on out, enjoy today's ride
Get out for a walk, a ride or a sit
It's your world, be part of it!
Spring!

Spring Grows!

The warmer temps of spring
Are more the normal thing
Today clouds battle the sun
Sun will keep fading, rain will come
But, it's a warm front, southern air
Keeping things toasty with lightning here?
Will find out tomorrow, planet's wild
And, quaking today, tantrum child
All around the Pacific rim
Subduction quakes make it shim
While in DeeCee daChump keeps lying
As a comedy routine he'd have folks crying
But, as a leader with all the denying
And, clever Americans are not buying
Anymore rich, punk, bully crap
That keeps oozing from his trap
Clueless moron fueling fear
While his racist believers rant & cheer
All the while denying they're the issue
Unhealthy, lazy, looking to blame
Someone else's fault, always the claim
Do more, eat less
Easy truth that few confess
And, now daChump wants to shut the border
We'll all be an avocado hoarder
Clueless moron with no plan
Except cheat at golf, work on his tan
Gotta go, can't listen to any more
Get my dog back out the door
Hope you get out & enjoy the day
Spring's a time to get out & play
Today On Earth

More Rain, Eruptions & Quakes

The planet is rocking this week
20 mountains spewing gasses that reek
Several big shakes along boundary zones
Stirring up waves and rattling bones
While here in Va. more cold and rain
Seems every few days more of the same
And, the birds are still chowing on down
Emptying feeders or cruising the ground
At least here the rain's moving out
And, it'll be Monday before the next bout
Hopes for a weekend with spring-like temps
I know that works for this winter wimp
Indonesia rules with 7 volcanoes alone
While Popo is blasting in the meso-American zone
Fuego, Pacaya & Santa Maria in Guatemala
Two in Costa Rica, "no mas" la gente hollar
But, Earth doesn't care what we think
Or that centuries roll by in a blink
The big ole planet just doing its thing
Quakes and volcanoes round the fiery ring
It's lifeforms that need to adapt or migrate
Make it through every day, Earth is won't wait
Big dog and I have waited out the showers
You should get out during today's lighted hours
No moon tonight, was New early this morn
Little sky viewing till these clouds are torn
Happy Friday, be back to the TOE soon
Hope your skies clear for a thin crescent moon
A new cycle is starting, waxing toward full
Here's to spring, let's put away the wool
Shorts and sun, the nice side of spring
Wander TOE, doing your thing!!

We Spring Back

Storm is gone, racing up the coast
Again, finally, some warmth to toast
But, only a couple of days of warm
Before another cool, rain swarm
Big quake, 6.5, off Kiska volcano
No tsunami, not sure mountain will blow
Otherwise, a quiet quaky day
And, volcano list, later comes our way
Big Brown Dog has arrived back home
Panting, resting after his morning roam
A quick TOE, got walking to do
Hope you get out, this lovely day, too
Why wait
Get out for skate
Spring is here

PNC: Perfect Nap Conditions

Cold and cloudy, now with rain
Time to throw down a nap again
Big Low off Carolina coast
Sets the stage for the toast
"Here's to knowing when it's time
To take a break, toss out a rhyme
Forget the work, ease back on play
And, focus on that nap today!"

No problem for my wild ole dog
He's now nappin' like a log
Snuck out early, the rascal boy
No collar, breakfast, just gone his ploy
5 hours later, he was back
Grabbed a snack, and in the sack
Still no problem taking a walk with me
Knowing soon a nappin' dog he'd be

A quiet Tuesday on a planet of shakes
Half the number of yesterday's quakes
Western Aleutians some volcanic rumbles
Usual PNG, Indonesian grumbles
Mainland Alaska a bit of fault slippin'
Off Virgin Isles, quakes, on isles boat drink sippin
Even a quiet day, plenty of quakes on Earth
Remind us of plate tectonics, fiery birth

While the tirehouse bird frenzy continues
Sunflower seeds, that's on the menu
Two tubes emptied TWICE today
Gold & Purple finches swarming my way
Don't think I've ever seen so many birds
A little, twittering, colorful dinosaur herd
20 pounds of seed gone in a week
Tough to keep up with wild, feathered freaks

Stay warm and dry
Take a nap
Today on Earth!!

April Fools Us; More Winter

With it 26.4 this morning
April came in with a warning!
Winter is still hanging round
Driving the warm air out of town
And, tomorrow a monster coastal storm
Is forecast to slide by to the east
And, while a soaking rain has been the norm
Looks like here, we'll miss that beast
Later this week we'll be back to spring
But, we all know, that's the thing
It is a fickle time of year
Where we're going is not quite clear
A battle rages 'tween air from north & south
That leaves a bad taste in my mouth
(and not from being sick all last week)
I'll take the Fall over Spring
With the joy a warm day does bring
While in spring you assume winter's past
And, then the warmth, just won't last
Then you think, spring is here, no, summer
From winter chill to cooking hot, bummer.
Yet, I'm not ready to move to Florida...

Big day in Earthquake land
Lots of quakes in the Sea of Andaman
31 quakes from 4.5 to 5.5
Seismic or new volcano come alive?
Now a 6.0 quake north of Mauritius Isles
The Indian Ocean showing some wilds
Shakes in Greece, Turkey and big in Iraq
It's a wild, shaking planet, watch it rock
But, lovely too with morning sky show
Waning crescent with Venus left and below
Saturn well above and Jupiter way right
All three planet are plenty bright
In the evening Aldebaran and Mars
Still hanging with other winter stars
Aldebaran, red like Mars, now twice as bright
We'll see if the clouds allow us that sight
While at my bird feeders the frenzy rolls on
How long before two more tubes are gone?
Purple finches flock, several dozen
Swarm and tweet, the air a'buzzin!
Springtime, they got kids to feed
Happy to supply them with their needs
How about you, get out, take Earth in
Squirrel just thought he'd slide on in
Big brown dog, didn't let him win
Time for us to go walk again
Get out, enjoy, Today on Earth.
